Remembrance Day 11/11/09

\

We will remember them…

Today is a day that we remember those soldiers who have given their lives in service to our country. We wear our poppies to remember the sacrifices they have made and pay our respects with a two minute silence at 11 o’clock.

In the relative calm of the modern world, it is difficult to picture just how many people have died so that we can enjoy the freedoms we do today.

To give you an idea about how many that is, if a line of soldiers who have died in wars started at the cenotaph at Whitehall, London, the queue would finish past Edinburgh, Scotland (over 330 miles away)

If you have time today, take a look at this animoto made with audio from our children by Mr Widdowson at Porchester Junior School

The Blackpool Tower Manager and his team to judge Year 4’s models of The Tower. The children were entertained by Mooky and Boo, all had a great time. The models are truely magnificent and really show what creative children and families we have. The challenge has been set and the bar is high. Come on all you other year groups, show us what you can do as part of your homework. Below is a video showing you the event, enjoy!

The Parents’ Forum is going to change a bit. We like the idea of you telling us what you think. Seriously, we do. So over half term we’ll set up different questions that we’d like your feedback on, such as how children learn best, or what you think of our school productions, summer fairs or anything else like that. It could also be things the children want your opinions of too.

At the moment, there’s a video all about the importance of ‘play’. See what you think about it. I’ll be honest though, it is a bit long, but he has lots of interesting ideas about it. Click here to go to the parent’s forum and join the debate!

We at Hawes Side are extremely proud of the homework our children do. The Learning Logs produce some outstanding and very creative pieces of work. They are highly personal and are a key component in our drive towards personalised learning. They are a real credit to all involved, pupils, parents, helpers and teachers. Watch the short video below to find out what they are all about.

The idea was adapted from a variety of other learning log examples. Please google Learning Logs to see them.
