On the TED website, there are lots of fantastic speakers that are creating ideas and challenging us to become better.

This is a talk by a man called Dr Stuart Brown, who talks about the importance of play, not just as children, but as adults as well.

Let us know what you think.

    School uniform question …..
Can my child wear a plain red cardigan/jumper , instead of the school one?
Where do I purchase a plain navy tracksuit from for a girl which does not cost the earth?

  2. mr m

    Hi Joho,

The best thing you can do is contact Mrs Davis at the school office for any uniform questions. As for the tracksuit, I’ve been told that the bigger supermarkets or most sports shops sell navy tracksuits. Hope this helps.

its nice to see that there is a uniform policy but why are some children still not keeping it. such as funney hairstyles like mohecans?
Shorely they should not be aloud. Im trying to make my infant child ware the right things but some seem to get away with it.

  4. Mr Shepherd

Hi Sue, we are having a drive on school uniform and have written to parents to outline expectations regarding hairstyles. For the most part this is helping and we’re working with parents to get things right. Thanks for your comments

    Reception Parent
Thanks very much for the post and we share your concern. We strive to ensure the gates to reception are open a few minutes before ten to nine everyday. On the day in question there was an issue that led to the key holders being held up very unexpectedly. We constantly review procedures and have followed up the incident with those involved. I trust that your experience since the incident has been that the gates have been open on time. Thanks again for your comment.

Just watched the video about play.
It would be so nice if the importance of play was noted by those setting the curriculums, and kids were able to play “freely” more in key stage 1 and key stage 2.
Less sat at the table and more learning from play is how it should be!
Great words from Dr Brown, will Hawes-side school be following his words of wisdom? I do hope so!

i still feel that notice of events such as trips, family assembly, parents evenings, sports day are given at such short notice and its very difficult for working parents to arrange their work to be able to attend. Also requests for money for plays, trips etc is very short notice, and on a budget its very hard at short notice to arrange payments

    Hi Andrea,

Thanks for your comment. I’ll pass this onto Mr Glynn and Mr Shepherd for you.

Hi Andrea, thanks for your comments. We are very keen to run trips to support the children’s learnning at the beginning of each topic to fire their enthusiasm. Obviously at this time of the year it is difficult to give advance warning of trips early in a term. Next term any trips will be announced in advance giving you more time to prepare. Increasing the number of educational visit was very much in line with parents’ wishes but we realise that sometimes it is difficult for parents when arranged at short notice. We try our best to give advance warning of other events through the newsletter as soon as we possibly can but we will follow up your comments and bear them in mind when organising events.

Hi, just wanted to say how glad I am that the individual school photo’s have remained more casual and contemporary. I’ve been listening to a few parents complain that the photo’s aren’t like they used to be, child sat upright and formal. Personally I never liked this style. It’s so nice to have photo’s of my children looking relaxed and happy :0)

    Hi,
Is the Fronter system working properly? I have been finding my pc detects a threat and closes down if I try and open it up for my daughter.
Last night I tried again and managed to get into it, but found nothing apart from the previous years class work.
I was worried my child was missing out on something but maybe not!
It also says the website has not renewed its security license and is not safe to continue. I deleted my childs photo and it warned me I would be reported to appropriate authorities! But I went ahead as decided my childs photo should not be on such a dodgy looking website!
Could someone tell me what is happening as I have been keeping an eye on Fronter for a year, keeping passwords safe etc and yet so far we have not gained anything from it.

      Hi Sahm,
I’ll look into it in more detail and get back to you, it may well be a fault in the system. Leave it with me.

        Thanks Mr M,
and how about a cheeky request that more photos are put on here for us parents to enjoy and some of the pages updated as some are from last year!
We keep checking out the website but if some pages never change it may soon make people lose interest, which is never good!

I found the ICT course helpful. I would like to know more about the general organisation of a computer. An enjoyable afternoon.

  13. carole pemberton

i thought the ICT workshop was very helpful.Mr Glynn explained everything really well.

  14. Lynne

I have found the ict workshop very informative, and Mr Glynn made it enjoyable for me.

  15. Rachel Cartmell

Have just attended the Parents Ict Training course held by Mr Glynn – it was great, have learnt something and now feel I can work with Bradley on projects at home and use this for his learning log.

    Thankyou for replying Mr M,
I am sure that once it has been updated it will be great, so nice to see the children involved in their schools website.
I personally think it would be great to have more photos on the gallery, and maybe staff photos so we can put names to faces (including staff who cover maternity). The Ptfa page could be updated with the minutes from meetings, and photos of successful ventures like the Halloween Ball.
Maybe add links to local groups such as Brownies, Cubs etc so that the website becomes a real hub for the Hawesside school community!
I have seen this on another school website and thought it was useful!
    Hope that helps!
